Add-on Store
The add-on store is to Home Assistant what an app store is to a smartphone. It is a collection of various applications and services that you can easily install and run alongside your Home Assistant on the same device. These add-ons enhance the functionality and convenience of your smart home by offering special tools and services that are not natively integrated into the basic Home Assistant installation.
You can choose from a wide range of add-ons - from media management systems to advanced security solutions. Each add-on is designed to work with Home Assistant while maintaining a certain degree of independence.
With the right add-ons, your smart home can become even smarter.
An example could be the database system MariaDB, which you can install using the add-on store. It is more or less a standard installation of this database system, which is not significantly modified for Home Assistant and can be used for other applications as well. However, the builds of the applications are managed in close relation to Home Assistant, and the functionality may be slightly limited or modified.
The add-on store is available only if you have HA installed in the HassOS or Supervised version.
Installation
The add-on store does not need to be installed separately. If you have the correct type of Home Assistant installation that allows this, you should find the store in Settings -> Add-ons.
Configuration
The store itself does not have many configuration options.
Enabling/disabling advanced user mode
At the HA user level, you can enable or disable advanced user mode, which significantly affects the list of applications you can see in the Add-on Store. If this option is disabled, you will not see some potentially more dangerous applications or applications that are more complex to set up.
Adding another repository
In the default HA installation, you already have three repositories in the store:
- Official add-ons
- ESPHome
- Home Assistant Community Add-ons
You can also add other repositories to further expand the list of applications in the store.
